Window tint
Removing rear-window tint without overlooking the defroster
What to discuss before rear tint removal: defroster lines, antenna elements, old adhesive and the scope of replacement film.

Rear glass can contain delicate heater lines and antenna elements. Removing old tint is therefore more than peeling a sheet from plain glass. Have the condition assessed and agree on the removal method and risks before work begins.
Check the glass equipment first
Identify defroster lines, embedded or surface antenna features and existing damage. Record whether the defroster works before removal. Some defects may predate the tint job; documenting them helps separate the existing condition from the proposed work.
Do not treat it like a side window
Metal scraping or aggressive adhesive removal around surface elements can cause damage. The method depends on the film, adhesive and glass assembly. Ask the professional how those elements will be protected rather than applying a generic scraper tutorial to the rear window.

Allow for old film behavior
Aged tint may separate into layers, become brittle or leave adhesive behind. That can change the labor required. A clear quote should distinguish removal, cleaning, inspection and new film rather than implying that the old tint will always come off in one piece.
Verify the handover
Discuss what can be tested after the work and follow the new film's care instructions. Keep records of the glass condition and any limitations agreed beforehand. When contacting Motenza, mention the vehicle, age of the tint and any existing defroster or reception problems so the project can be scoped accurately.
Before your next step
- Document heater-line condition and operation.
- Keep metal scraping away from delicate elements.
- Separate removal labor from new-film installation.
